Puppet Maker

Trina Gaskell is a Melbourne based puppet designer and maker. From miniature marionettes to giant wearable puppets Trina has made a wide range of puppets for companies such as Polyglot Puppet Theatre, Handspan Theatre, Company Skylark and Snuff Puppets.

In recent years Trina has designed and made puppets for the Beswick community festival "Walking With Spirits" (N.T.) and the Polyglot/Ilbijerri co-production "Headhunter". She has been an artist in residence at a rural Victorian school where students created and performed their own giant puppet production. Trina travelled with the Snuff Puppets to Brazil for the World Social Forum 2005 to participate in running puppet-making workshops for local puppeteers and artists.

She has also made puppets for theatre companies incorporating puppetry into their dramatic repertoire such as Aphids' production of "A Quarreling Pair" and the production of "Yanagai! Yanagai!" by Melbourne Workers' Theatre. More recently her nearly 10 month old son has been keeping her busy, with a number of interesting projects and puppets-to-be-made now beckoning her back to work.
